The school holidays are often the perfect time to get lobe piercings. Routines are a little more relaxed, there’s time to rest and recover, and honestly? It can be such a special little rite of passage.
But before you and your kiddo head into the studio, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure the process is safe, and stress-free:
Â
School Rules & Dress Codes
Many schools have specific policies around earrings, often allowing only a small plain gold stud or a single white CZ gem. The good news? We’ve got plenty of beautiful options that align with common school requirements while still feeling special and exciting (because a classic doesn’t mean boring).
Â
Safety Is Our Love Language
We’re all about making your child’s piercing experience as safe and gentle as possible. That means no piercing guns, ever. We use a sterile, single-use needle which is far more precise and significantly less traumatic to the tissue (no blunt force drama here, thank you very much).
We also pierce exclusively with implant-grade titanium backing with a solid 14kt gold front, ensuring the jewellery is biocompatible and perfect for healing skin. Because your little one deserves only the best for comfort and safety.
Â
Swimming & Water Play
If your child is a little fish and loves the pool, it’s worth knowing that fresh piercings and non-shower water don’t mix well. We recommend avoiding swimming for at least 8-16 weeks post piercing to help the lobes heal happily and to minimise irritation.
Â
Sports & Active Play
For contact sports or activities that require jewellery to be removed, we suggest holding off for now. Lobes take around 4-6 months to fully heal, and the jewellery needs to stay in that whole time. Taking earrings in and out during healing can cause unnecessary irritation (and trust us, no one wants that).
Â
Consent Is Everything
At Metalia, we value your child’s agency above all else. Piercing should always be a consensual, empowering experience and never something done just because it’s convenient. That’s why we’re here for the whole journey: from the very first conversation to the piercing procedure, aftercare guidance, and check-ins along the way.
We welcome consultations for anyone considering a piercing, as it’s a great way for your child to meet the team, and feel confident about the process ahead. Our minimum piercing age is 8, but we’re always open to discussing unique circumstances to ensure your child feels safe, supported, and in control.

Looking forward to seeing you and your child at Metalia for the safest and chicest children's ear piercing experience.
